I researched and read and wrote people before finally deciding to buy this helmet. I am very pleased with my purchase.

So far got a few hours working with this shield. MIG welding is comfortable. The auto-darkening feature is pretty good, but it will not work awesome straight out of the box, you’ll need to fool with the delay to get it perfect. Don’t let that dissuade you though, once it’s honed in, its a great mask. The other think I like is the head band is a ratchet style so it won’t loosen up on your head. The flip-up pivot needs to get tightened from time to time when being used a lot. It gets loosey goosey and then your mask falls down when you don’t need it down. But its a cheaper mask, all in all a great mask for the price and I would recommend.

Good choice, great price

The helmet dimmed very quickly as described and lightened up just as quickly if I wanted. The ability to adjust the sensitivity as well as how quickly the lens un-shades was great and it works well. The headband has a wide range of adjustability which is nice. It made it so I was able to position it just the way I like it. It has a battery/dimmer test button which is nice as well. The design is cool. There is a wide range of darkness settings, including a grind setting which is very nice as well. It comes with replacement lenses and batteries which I find to be very thoughtful items to include. The only downsides in my opinion, which you will find on most helmets, is the darkness adjustment knob on the outside of the helmet can be bumped and turns too easily. I bumped it on my first use. I bumped it to grind of course and ended up flashing myself twice. This can be avoided if your mindful of it. The other downside is the plastic knobs used to tighten the helmet so it stays up when you want it up, feel very cheap and it feels like you could strip them out really easily. You have to tighten them down quite a bit to get the helmet to stay up without falling down which I don’t like, but all in all it is a very good helmet, especially for the money. 4 stars and I would definitely recommend to anyone looking for a good helmet at a cheap price.

Good value I think.

I’m pretty surprised with this unit! So far it has been very nice. Works like advertised. It is light and comfortable. The sensitivity seems excellent. For the money this is working well for me. I have never worn one of the 400 dollar units so perhaps this review isn’t worth it’s salt but heck, I’m pleased. I don’t think it would fair well in an industrial abusive climate as it is thin and light to hold but that wasn’t what I was looking for. If you are a hobby welder I don’t see why you wouldn’t like it.

Absolute best bang for the buck!

Ok so I am by far not a professional welder and I don’t use this mask everyday but being a novice and using it these last few days on a home project day and night, I’ve got to say that it is completely worth every cent and just as good as any of the other $200+ mask that I’ve used in the past! I love this thing and while it has not made me a better welder, it has allowed me to better use my skills as I can see so much better now! My only complaint is that the head harness. It is cheap but you can pickup a good one from any welding supply for a combined price of still less than $100 for everything.

Good enough

Pros: Nice large lens, good response time when welding, I like the sensitivity adjust. when its not darkening you can actually see through it, unlike some that are dark and a hassle to see through.

Very good unit

As a home welder I had purchased a non-darkening helmet to start with, and really struggled to get my welding done. As soon as I upgraded to this helmet I could actually see what I was doing. It reacts ultra quickly to light, and darkens immediately. For cutting or grinding it has a separate setting.

It easily contends with helmets in the 200 to 400 range

I started out with a regular fixed lens helmet and it drove me insane. I decide to upgrade and picked up this helmet. The helmet itself is still your basic plastic helmet but the lens is where it shines. It easily contends with helmets in the 200 to 400 range. Simply put if you are just looking into welding this is a fantastic starter helmet. It let’s you see what your doing at all times and has settings for every type of welding. If your looking to use this for your job you might want to look at some studies helmets. This helmet is fantastic but it will me take much of a beating so if your rough on your gear opt for a metal helmet instead.
